Pupil Parliament at All Saints’ –
At All Saints’, our Pupil Parliament plays an active and valued role in shaping school life. Elected representatives from each class meet regularly to share the views of their classmates and lead positive change in line with our Christian values of respect, compassion, responsibility, and service.
Below is a summary of the discussions and decisions made during our recent Pupil Parliament meetings:
Autumn 1 – Listening, Leading, and Acting
Our Pupil Parliament representatives all came prepared, having led their own Class Parliament sessions and brought forward notes and ideas from their peers. Key suggestions included:
• More after-school clubs
• Class pets
• Increased outdoor learning and Forest School time
• Mindfulness sessions
• Charity fundraising and non-uniform days
You Said, We Did:
• A variety of clubs are now offered each half term, rotating by year group.
• Each class has been given a plant to nurture, encouraging responsibility and care.
• Children have been reminded of their role as Curriculum Champions, able to influence outdoor learning by sharing ideas with subject leaders.
• All classes have participated in Wellbeing and mindfulness sessions this term.
• We’ve supported charities including Macmillan, Children in Need, the Poppy Appeal and held a Danceathon to support the education of three children in Uganda.
Autumn 2 – Rewarding Success
The children met again to plan an end-of-term reward. After voting on ideas such as a Christmas fayre, movie afternoon and non-uniform day, the winning suggestion was a Forest School session with s’mores around the campfire. A memorable day was enjoyed by all—celebrating friendship, effort and outdoor fun.
Spring 1 – Giving Back to the Community
This term, the Pupil Parliament decided to raise money and collect items for The Cancer Bank, a local charity supporting individuals undergoing cancer treatment.
Children suggested different themed days and voted for a simple non-uniform day that celebrated individuality and self-expression. The event raised over £250 and many much-needed items were donated. We were honoured to welcome Dan Theobalds, the charity’s leader, who visited school to thank the children personally and lead an inspiring assembly.
Spring 2 – Rewarding Positive Behaviour
Following class discussions, children voted for an end-of-term reward afternoon. While some requested another Forest session, the final decision was for a two-part activity event. Children with the most signatures on their Shine Cards were able to choose their preferred sessions first—encouraging positive behaviour and responsibility. Activities included sports, creative play and team-building games.
Children also voted for a non-uniform day, allowing them to dress appropriately for the day’s events.
Summer 1 – Improving Our School Together
This half term, children discussed ways to make school life “even better.” Suggestions included:
• Learning more about other countries and cultures
• More visible rewards for children who consistently follow our school rules
• Creating calmer spaces for lunchtime relaxation
• Offering a wider range of clubs and activities
• More time on the Trim Trail and outdoor equipment
These ideas were passed to our Ministers from the Pupil Leadership Departments, who are now planning projects for Summer 2.
Summer 2 – Celebrating Community and Choice
The final Pupil Parliament meeting of the year focused on planning the end-of-year celebration. Children voted for a repeat of the successful activity sessions format. There will be two shorter outdoor sessions, with children choosing from a range of activities including:
• Football and basketball
• Rounders
• Free time in the Forest School area
• Trim trail fun
• Mini sports day
• Outdoor games and equipment
Once again, selection will be based on Shine Card signatures, promoting our values of effort, kindness, and community.
Our Pupil Parliament continues to demonstrate how pupil voice, rooted in our Christian ethos, can bring about positive change. Through discussion, reflection, and action, our children grow into thoughtful, compassionate leaders of the future.
