Department for Environment and Safety
Link Teachers: Mr Preston and Mrs Collins
Date: 14th November 2024
Meeting Facilitator: Mrs Gardiner (Forward As One Trust)
On 14th November, the Ministers for the Department of Environment and Safety took part in a virtual meeting via Zoom with fellow Pupil Advisory Board members from across the Forward As One Trust. The session, led by Mrs Gardiner, focused on developing children’s understanding of the key themes of Environment and Safety—two fundamental aspects of daily school life.
Children explored the meaning of Environment as “the space around us”—including the classroom, school grounds, wider community and the world—and discussed Safety as “being free from harm and worry,” linking it to good mental health and emotional wellbeing.
As part of the session, Mrs Gardiner introduced Article 27 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), which states:
“Every child has the right to a standard of living that is good enough to meet their physical, mental, spiritual, moral, and social needs and support their development. Governments must help families who cannot afford this.”
To explore this right further, the Ministers from All Saints’:
• Shared Article 27 in a whole-school assembly, helping children understand how it relates to their lives.
• Led a pupil questionnaire to gather feedback on how well children feel this right is met at All Saints’.
• Encouraged pupils to create posters or presentations showing how the school supports children’s right to a good standard of living—highlighting both practical and emotional support.
We are incredibly proud of the way our Pupil Ministers are developing as leaders, supporting not only the local school environment but also promoting children’s rights and wellbeing in a way that reflects our Christian values of compassion, justice and respect.

Keeping All Saints’ Safe and Clean –
One of the key responsibilities of the Ministers for the Department of Environment and Safety is to help maintain a clean, tidy, and safe environment for everyone at All Saints’. Our ministers work proactively to monitor shared spaces around school — such as cloakrooms and corridors — and award ‘Tidy Cloakroom Certificates’ to the classes who take pride in keeping their areas neat and well-organised.
Summer Term Poster Campaign: Helping Everyone Take Responsibility
At the end of the Spring Term, our Environment and Safety Ministers introduced an exciting whole-school poster competition to be held during the Summer Term. The purpose of the competition is to raise awareness of how every member of our school community can contribute to making All Saints’ a clean, safe and positive place to learn.
Pupils are invited to design posters with clear, friendly messages aimed at reminding others — including visitors and the wider community — of their role in looking after our school and its surroundings.
Suggested poster themes include:
• Bathroom hygiene – reminders to flush toilets, dispose of paper towels properly and leave the facilities tidy.
• Outside school – posters encouraging the wider community to help keep the area around school safe and clean, including reminders to park safely and clear up dog mess.
• Playground waste – encouraging everyone to use the bins for milk cartons, fruit peelings and lunch wrappers.
• Indoor safety and tidiness – reminding pupils to keep classrooms, corridors and cloakrooms free of clutter and trip hazards.
This initiative not only reinforces our commitment to a healthy and respectful learning environment, but also supports our Christian values of responsibility, stewardship and care for others.
We look forward to seeing the children’s creative ideas and will proudly display the winning posters around school to inspire positive behaviour all year round.
