Link Teachers: Miss Duckworth and Miss Harrison
On 14th November 2024, the Ministers for the Department of Sport, Media and Culture attended their first virtual meeting with other members of the Forward as One Pupil Advisory Board. The meeting was led via Zoom and focused on exploring the meanings of key areas within the department:
• Sport – physical activity, fitness, teamwork, and competition
• Media – television, radio, newspapers, and digital platforms
• Culture – music, theatre, literature, art, and museums
During the session, pupils learned about Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). This article highlights that every child has the right to relax, play, and participate in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.

To raise awareness across the school, our pupil ministers led an informative assembly about Article 31 and shared a questionnaire with classes to gather pupils’ thoughts on how well this right is being upheld at All Saints’. Children were also encouraged to design posters or create presentations to show how our staff promote and protect this right in school.
Spring Term Focus
In the spring term, the Ministers reflected further on Article 31, focusing specifically on the statement:
“Children have the right to take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.”
While pupils already enjoy regular lessons in Art, Design & Technology, and Music, the Ministers wanted to give this aspect of school life a competitive and celebratory twist. Inspired by the sporting competitions already embedded in school life (such as Sports Day and inter-house tournaments), the Ministers proposed the creation of:
• An inter-house singing competition
• An art competition
• A whole-school talent show, titled “All Saints’ Has Talent” (co-organised with the Ministers from the Department for Education – see their dedicated sub-page for more information).
These events aim to celebrate the creativity, individuality and cultural talents of every child, ensuring that all pupils have the opportunity to shine.
Summer Term Initiative: Celebrating World Cultures
Another exciting idea brought forward by the Ministers was to deepen the school’s understanding of global cultures. Each class has chosen a different country to explore, learning about its traditions, language, food, geography, and arts. The children will share their learning with peers during Key Stage worship sessions, promoting respect and appreciation for diversity within our school community.
These projects not only align with Article 31 but also with our school’s Christian values, helping our pupils to develop empathy, global awareness and a love for learning beyond their own lived experiences.
