Department for Vision, Values and Ethos
Link Teacher: Miss McLaughlin
Date: 19th September 2024
Meeting Facilitator: Mr Costas-Walker (Forward As One Trust)
On 19th September 2024, the Ministers from All Saints’ Department of Vision, Values and Ethos attended their first virtual meeting of the academic year with fellow Pupil Advisory Board members from across the Forward As One Trust. The session was led by Mr Costas-Walker and provided the children with the opportunity to reflect on the deeper meaning of their role within the school.
During the meeting, the pupils explored the key concepts of:
• Vision – the ideas and hopes we have for our school and future
• Values – the things we believe are important and guide how we live and treat others
• Ethos – the atmosphere, feelings, and shared beliefs that shape how our school community feels and acts every day
These discussions linked closely with Article 14 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), which states:
“Every child has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.”
The children reflected on how this right connects to life at All Saints’, a school where Christian values are lived out daily and where respect for individual beliefs is nurtured and celebrated. To further explore the impact of this article in our school, the Vision, Values and Ethos Ministers:
• Led a whole-school assembly to introduce Article 14 and explain its importance
• Worked with their classes to gather pupil voice through questionnaires and group discussions
• Reflected on how All Saints’ encourages freedom of belief within the context of our Christian foundation and inclusive ethos
We are proud of how our pupils are becoming thoughtful, reflective leaders who live out our vision of growing together in faith, love and learning.

Celebrating Our Pupils’ Work on Article 14 – UNCRC
“Every child has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.”
As part of our ongoing work with the Forward As One Pupil Advisory Board, children at All Saints’ explored Article 14 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). This article recognises every child’s right to develop their own beliefs and values and to practise their faith freely and respectfully.
To deepen their understanding, pupils were invited to create posters that illustrate how All Saints’ supports and upholds this right in daily school life. The creativity, thoughtfulness and insight shown by our children were outstanding.
We are proud to share the winning posters, which highlight how our school’s Christian values, inclusive ethos and commitment to pupil voice help every child feel respected, valued, and free to explore their beliefs.
