Below are the reading spines which show what books children will be reading in year 3 in the autumn term.

In Beech class, we are having a real focus on reading this half term. At the beginning of each English lesson and many of our other lessons we complete a reading fluency activity which is helping to develop four key aspects of our reading.
Accuracy: To read words accurately in the text.
Rate: To read words at a good rate which is just right- not too fast and not too slow.
Expression: To read with expression, not like a robot.
Punctuation: To read in phrases and to understand the punctuation in the text.
Our Reading Challenge
This half term, we are having a reading challenge in Beech class through which the children have been challenged to read up to and above 10 books. When the children read a book and record their reading on Boom Reader they are able to colour in one book on the reading tracker. If they fully compete and record 5 books they receive a prize. If the children progress further and have read and recorded ten books they will receive a prize and a certificate home. In Beech class, we are aiming for the children to read up to 30 books by the end of the academic year. We are also encouraging the children to read a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books and for the children to challenge themselves with their reading.
Boom Reader medal
To celebrate reading in Beech class we have a Boom Reader medal which is awarded to a pupil at the end of each week. The chosen pupil is not necessarily the child who has read the most books but maybe the child who has made the most progress with their reading. All of the adults within school are aware of the Boom Reader medal and will make a point pf celebrating the pupil when they spot them wearing the medal. Beech class love the medal and wear it with pride each week.
