RE

Autumn 1 Feedback

It was wonderful to see such a positive attitude towards RE. The children were enthusiastic, engaged and keen to talk about their learning. They had lots to share about what they have been learning, what they enjoy about RE and how it connects with worship.

WWW – What’s Working Well

  • Children were able to clearly explain and share what they have learnt so far in their current RE units.

  • Children spoke positively about learning about different religions and their understanding of God and different beliefs.

  • Children could make clear links between their RE learning and worship, recognising how the two areas complement and support one another.

  • The creativity within RE was particularly well received. Children spoke enthusiastically about activities such as hot seating and art.

  • Children enjoy being challenged by the RE Big Questions and are keen to explore and discuss them.

  • Children in Years 3, 5 and 6 could explain that they had been introduced to the three new characters and were able to share some information about them.

  • Children know that they can use their RE displays to support them when they are unsure or become stuck.

  • Retrieval practice is valued by the children. They recognise that regularly revisiting previous learning helps them to remember and strengthen their knowledge.

  • Children appreciate being able to use their RE books to revisit and reflect on prior learning.

EBI – Even Better If

  • Making links to God’s Big Story: At present, Year 6 were the only children who could confidently make links between their current RE unit and God’s Big Story. We need to ensure that the slide showing where the current RE unit fits within God’s Big Story is included in lessons. This will help children to understand the wider narrative and make meaningful connections across their RE learning.

  • Introducing the three characters: Ensure that all key stage 2 children are introduced to the three characters, or are given regular opportunities to revisit and recall who they are and their significance and where they might come across them in their RE unit.
