Online Safety

Children were asked to discuss what they know about staying safe online.

  • Year 1 knew to tell an adult about any problems, that passwords help keep things safe, to keep passwords private, not to click on pop-ups and if you came across someone you don't know online then to tell a trusted adult.
  • Year 2 knew not to talk to strangers online, not to have social media, not to share phone numbers, school name or address online, not to play games over their age range, not to share passwords and to tell a trusted adult if they felt uncomfortable about anything.
  • Year 3 knew not to click on things above your age, not to search something you don't know about and not to click on pop-ups.
  • Year 4 knew not to share personal information online, not to be friends with people you 'meet' online as they might not be being honest about who they are. They could also recall the SCAM acrostic; Sounds too good to be true; Can involve money; Asks for personal information; Messages that are unexpected.
  • Year 5 knew not to give away personal information and not to answer random messages in case these were an online scam.

Spring-

All pupils are enthusiastic about their learning in PSHE.

  • Children in year 3 know that regular exercise  benefits our bodies.  They are aware of the impact a lack of sleep has on their bodies and wellbeing.
  • Children in year 4 can discuss how to maintain oral hygiene and dental health. They know, in some detail, about the effects different foods and drinks have on dental health.

Road Safety

All pupils in key stage 1 were able to share aspects of the road safety lessons they have had this half term. Look, Listen, Think was a clear message.

Overall- WWW:

  • Year 1 (Maple) talked about good listening in PSHE lessons, with children being ready to learn and things being well explained.
  • Year 4 said they thought that behaviour (for learning) was stronger in PSHE lessons.
  • Year 5 enjoy and value the 5 minutes mindfulness.
  • Year 6 commented on the focus on internet safety and how they valued this. They felt learning moved on quickly, but they understand what has been taught.

EBI:

  • Some pupils felt that lessons needed to be longer due to the amount there is to learn.
  • There was a suggestion that more of a focus was needed on recapping prior learning in PSHE.
  • There was a range of learning activities within lessons. Children felt the mindfulness and spotlight on behaviour varied the lesson but more active learning within the main lesson was suggested along with the inclusion of things like true or false quizzes.
  • Year 3 pupils access their reflection journal with increased regularity in the spring term.
