History

Autumn 1 Feedback

WWW

Year 4 children remembered covering the Stone Age and could remember some facts such as, hunter gatherers. They also recalled completing stone age paintings and going into the forest pretending to be early humans.

Other year groups recalled facts about the Romans specifically their battles with the Celts. Anglo Saxon farming was another topic which the children enjoyed.

Children remembered and enjoyed trips with a History focus particularly the Year 3 trip to the Liverpool World Museum when they got to see real life mummies and other Egyptian artefacts.

EBI

Children would like to link Geography with history so that they can understand where the events took place.

The children would like to have more visitors linked to their history topic as they really like it when they get to handle artefacts and to experience life like for example: a stone age person.

Children would like more trips linked to history as one of their favourite trips is to the World Museum in Liverpool.

Children said they would also like to complete some retrieval tasks to help them to remember more of their history learning.

Children could not recall where the History display- we went to the display and they discussed it together. The children requested a bigger board so that more super history work can be displayed. They also expressed an interest in being able to plan out and make the display more interactive.

  • Children were able to use a timeline and interpret the information appropriately for their age.
  • Children could all tell me about their favourite lesson and what they learned in this.
  • KS2 have enjoyed carrying out their own research in history lessons.
  • All children have had access to artefacts, photographs etc during lessons.
  • Children were able to articulate ways that help them remember what they have learned – hands on activities, own research, role play etc.
  • Children remain enthusiastic about their history learning and the units being covered.

EBI

  • Children could easily recall the vocabulary taught in units. Children knew they had learned it but couldn’t easily recall it.
  • Children had more time to explore on their own with less teacher talk (explained the need for teachers to share a narrative first).
  • Children were confident when discussing the history symbols and how they have covered them in units taught.
  • Children asked for more visual support to help them to be able to imagine what they are learning. Some were unsure what the people, places etc looked like in their most recent unit of history.
