Summer-

WWW:

  • Willow love getting to make things they never have before
  • Maple love that they get to make things and that they get to eat the food that they make.

  • Elder enjoy that DT can be difficult but they get challenge themselves
  • Oak enjoy learning different skills to give them opportunities to make choices in their final projects, making informed decisions and using their imagination. Oak also enjoyed opportunities to test things out and keep working on them.

EBI:

  • Children would like to have more DT days to immerse themselves in topics.
  • Children want more time to develop their skills before the final project.
  • Children want to have visitors come into school.

In this session we focused prior learning, skill practice and vocabulary.

Spring-

In this session we focused on using visualisation skills to design a product.

We discussed the importance of the the user and purpose of a product and then children designed a new package for a Cadbury creme egg!

WWW:

  • All children spoke positively about their topics.
  • KS2 children could clearly articulate their learning.
  • KS2 children asked lots of questions about ways they can further develop their skills.
  • KS1 children talked a lot about their enjoyment of their topics.
  • Children could retrieve learning from last year about engineering and its links to DT.
  • Years 5 and 6 spoke about using their engineering skills in this years DT topics.
  • Children could explain that visualisation helps them to see what they want to do.

EBI:

  • Children shared that they wanted more time to focus on their final outcome so that they can work more on their appearance.
  • Children suggested being able to do more engineering tasks.
  • Children wanted to find out more about how DT helps them in the 'real world' and how it links to jobs in the future.

 

Autumn-

WWW:

  • Children could articulate what DT is as a subject
  • Children could talk about the engineering project and why they enjoyed it.
  • Children explained that they loved getting to do practical skills.
  • Children who find English difficult shared that they enjoy how they don’t have to write as much but still feel like they are learning a lot.

EBI:

  • Children could explain why DT is important.
  • Children could name and explain the different strands of DT.
  • Children got to experience more independence.
