Computing

Miss McLaughlin is our Computing Subject Leader, supporting staff and pupils in delivering a computing curriculum that is exciting, relevant and above all—safe.

At All Saints’, we recognise the importance of computing in an ever-changing digital world. Our children are naturally enthusiastic and curious about technology and we aim to nurture that interest through engaging, meaningful learning experiences that develop both skills and understanding.

Online safety is a key priority. Children learn how to explore the digital world responsibly, and we ensure that online safety is taught every half term, both in computing lessons and through our PSHE curriculum. Our whole-school approach ensures that children are equipped with the knowledge to stay safe online in school and beyond.

We also work in partnership with staff, parents and volunteers to keep everyone informed of the latest online safety guidance and best practices, helping us all to work together to keep children safe in today’s digital age.

Our computing curriculum is built around the Teach Computing Scheme of Work which provides a clear, progressive, and skills-based structure from Year 1 through to Year 6. Children have weekly computing lessons that build confidence and independence across a wide range of areas, including programming, digital literacy, data handling and creative media.

This year, we are further enriching our curriculum by integrating computing into topic work across other subjects. This cross-curricular approach gives children real purpose for using their digital skills—whether creating presentations, recording audio, coding simulations or conducting research.

In Reception, children begin their journey with technology by exploring a range of devices and learning through play. Staff ensure that our youngest learners become confident with basic computing vocabulary, develop simple digital skills and are familiar with tools and programs that will support their future learning.
