Computing
Summer 2-
WWW:
- Pupils said they enjoy coding and appreciate the challenge, recognising that it helps them develop their problem-solving skills.
- Pupils demonstrated a strong understanding of online safety and were confident in discussing how to stay safe when using technology.
- Pupils spoke enthusiastically about using Micro bits and shared how much they have enjoyed working with them.
- Turtle Academy was highlighted as a favourite resource, with pupils enjoying the opportunity to develop their programming skills in a fun and engaging way.
- Pupils were very positive about the Computing Club and expressed that they would like it to continue next year.
- Pupils valued having regular computing lessons and enjoyed the wide range of learning opportunities provided.
EBI:
- Older pupils would welcome opportunities to support younger pupils during computing lessons, helping to develop leadership skills while sharing their knowledge.
- Pupils would like to continue using computing across the curriculum, with more opportunities to undertake research and use technology to enhance their learning in other subjects.
Summer 1-
WWW:
- We have learnt the meaning of new vocabulary such as website, command, coding, input, output, device and editing.
- We find retrieval at the start of lesson helpful because it means we can recap on our previous learning, it refreshes my mind of the knowledge I have previously learnt, it helps us to refer back to what we did last lesson so it refreshes our brain and helps us to remember things.
- Computing will help me in the future because I can send other people around the world emails, it helps me to keep safe online and it will help me to do most jobs in the future.
- We have learnt new skills such as how to copy and paste, coding, commanding, photo editing and 3D modelling.
- We have used computing in other subjects to research about different people, topics and questions, to collaborate on work and use a wide range of websites.
- We use our computing knowledge and skills outside of school to use an online dictionary, type things up because I have got quicker at typing and use coding in different games I play.
EBI:
- We could continue to practice the skills we learn in other subjects as well as computing.
- We could use our typing skills to type up pieces of writing and short stories to present it in different ways.
- If we could use our computing skills to carry out more research, do more digital art and use our research to answer specific questions.
Spring-
WWW:
- It was clear to see that the children enjoy computing sessions and were able to talk about what they particularly enjoy and why.
- Children in all classes were able to recall some learning from previous units and could name their current unit, explaining what it is they are currently learning about.
- They understand why computing lessons are important and could articulate how their learning will help them in the future and in their careers.
- Children could recall key vocabulary from units already taught/being taught at the moment with some children remembering what the vocabulary means.
- All curriculum champions could discuss online safety, showing a clear understanding of the topic and the reasons why this is taught in schools.
EBI:
- Children suggested that they would like to be able to use the computers more frequently and not just in computing sessions (KS1).
- Children shared an interest in being able to access the internet more and be able to play more educational games on the computers, as well as being able to use them as a reward or being given some 'free time' to use the learning apps such as TTRS - look at adding computing to the next rewards event as an optional activity.
- Children in KS2 said they would like to be able to use the computers as a way of presenting their work/learning. For example, completing a PowerPoint presentation at the end of a topic.
Autumn-
- Children in all classes were able to confidently speak about the computing unit they have been learning about this half term.
- They were able to answer questions about their unit of learning and used some correct vocabulary from this half term's unit.
- Children were also able to communicate confidently and appropriately about how to stay safe online, showing that they have a good understanding of what 'personal information' means and that this is what needs to be kept private.
